DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SURGERY & SURGICAL GASTROENTEROLOGY

Department of Surgery incorporates the departments of General Surgery, Surgical Gastroenterology and laparoscopic surgery. The department functions in close collaboration with other specialties, especially Medical Gastroenterology.

All the five operation theatre are well equipped with facilities for all procedures, major and minor. This department has an excellent operation theatre with facilities for all procedures, major and minor. The department provides state of the art surgical care. The seven bedded fully equipped surgical post-operative ICU has invasive monitoring & ventilator facilities.

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy and appendicectomy are routinely performed. Major oncological surgeries including procedures for cancer of pancreas, bile duct, stomach, small and large intestine are being done.

Other major areas given prominence are surgeries of benign as well as malignant disorders of the breast and thyroid. Mesh repair of hernias, modern surgeries for varicose veins are performed. Facility for routine vascular surgery is available. The department also has a piles clinic with facilities like endoscopic band ligation, sclerotherapy, stapled haemorrhodectomy and open haemorrhodectomy as per the needs of the patient.


DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE

We are well-equipped with ICU and CCU where cases like Acute M1, Septicemia, Leptospirosis, Dengue fever, complicated viral fever, envenomation by snake bite, poisoning, drug overdosage etc. are managed effectively. We have the following facilities:-

DEPARTMENT OF ORTHOPAEDICS Department of Orthopaedics is well equipped with C-arm Image Intensifier, Fracture table, Power drill etc. We are routinely doing Closed Interlocking Nailing for long bone fractures, Gama Nailing for Trochanteric Fractures, Recon Nailing for Subtrachanteric and IMSC Nailing for supracondylar fractures. Other surgeries like JESS, CTEV, Illizarov Fixation etc. are also done here. We will be starting joint replacement surgeries shortly. DEPARTMENT OF ANAESTHESIOLOGY The department consists of two well experienced and qualified Anaesthesiologists supported by trained staff. The theatre complex consists of 3 major and 1 minor operation rooms, each highly equipped for specialties like Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, General surgery & Onco surgeries. We are equipped with all types of invasive and non-invasive monitoring devices like ECG and Heart rate monitor with High resolution integrated vedio screen display.

Pulseoximeter (Datex Ohmeda & Novametrix 515B) provides reliable continuous measurement display and alerts for Oxygen Saturation and pulse rate.

Capnometer (Datex-Engstron Normocap 200) measures inspired and end tidal concentration of Carbon Dioxide and Nitrous Oxide and calculates respiratory rate which is displayed on LCD screen on the Infusion Pump.This device helps us to give prolonged general anaesthesia with agents for long duration Onco surgeries without much use of inhalational agents, which give the patient a hang-over-free post-op period. The two Boyel MK III S Anaesthesia machines with Tec 3 and Tec 5 Halothene vaporizers with added security of hypoxic guard, help us to take up all types of major surgeries in our hospital. Apart from GA techniques we also offer, SAB cont: Lumbar and thoracic Epidural anaesthesia and peripheral nerve blocks with nerve stimulator depending upon the surgical sites. Our 4-bedded PACU is designed with central pipe line O2 and all emergency care set up. Providing Labour Analgesia for painless labour is the specialty of our centre.

Besides the ICCU and SICU, we have a critical care unit staffed by an Anaesthesiologist, Physician and CCU trained staff nurses. This unit is equipped with all modern facilities including two ventilators for respiratory support - New Port Wave E 200 and New Port Breeze Ventilators - which can be used for both invasive and non invasive respiratory support of infants, paediatrics and adults.

DEPARTMENT OF OPHTHALMOLOGY

Although the hospital is well known as a Gastroenterology centre all over the country, the Dept. of Ophthalmology has been carrying out advanced surgical techniques in cataract surgery, oculoplastics, orbital and lacrimal surgery.

The department is fully equipped with the latest state of the art equipment and has extremely efficient and devoted staff.

The department has played an important role in the treatment of eye diseases in and around the township of Koothattukulam.

- Has outpatient clinic on Tuesday & Thursday from 9.00 AM to 12.30 PM - Helps in the diagnosis and treatment of all skin diseases and sexually transmitted diseases - Carries out investigation procedures like skin biopsy and surgical procedures like electrocavity for the treatment of DNP, Warts and skin tags.

DEPARTMENT OF GYNAECOLOGY & OBSTETRICS

- High Risk Pregnancy Care, Well equipped labour room with Cardiotocogram & Doppler facilities, 24 hr availability of ultrasound with Doppler facility, Pap Smear Screening, Hormone Replacement therapy for menopause, Routine Gynecological surgeries. We have a well equipped infertility lab providing facilities like ovulation induction & follicular monitoring for female infertility, assessment and treatment of male infertility, counselling for sexual disorders.
